Bowen Therapy

The Bowen Technique or Bowen Therapy, is a gentle, non-invasive remedial tissue therapy, that has been use worldwide for the past 45 years. The technique uses a sequence of gentle rolling moves at specific points on the body. The moves stimulate the muscle, soft tissue and energy flow, resulting in a deep sense of overall relaxation.

Bowen will not interfere with other medical attention as it is known as a complimentary modality and is safe to use on people of all ages, from new born children to the elderly. The disabled and chronically ill benefit from the Bowen Treatment as well. Pregnant Women can also enjoy the benefits from the safe and gentle effectiveness of this technique.

Pregnancy Massage and Bowen Therapy

A pregnant woman goes through enormous changes both physically and emotionally. Carrying a baby inside you changes your center of gravity thus putting stress on your back, neck, abdominal muscles and shoulders. Pregnancy also relaxes your ligaments, so that your pelvic joints are less stable this in turn changes your posture, pulling your pelvis forward.

Receiving regular Massages or Bowen Therapy treatments during pregnancy helps relieve the unique aches and pains that accompany pregnancy, due to the extra weight, changing structural alignment, and hormones – not to mention the demands women have from work, home and family.

  • decrease in pain and an increase in movement
  • improves circulation
  • relieves muscle cramps and spasms
  • increases Lymphatic Drainage
  • improves skin elasticity

Bowen Therapy can safely be performed on an expectant mother in the first 3 months of pregnancy up until labor begins. After the mother has given birth, there are certain Bowen moves that will help calm the body and aid the body in returning to its natural state, prior to pregnancy.

Some common pregnancy pains that Bowen can help relieve are:

  • Sciatic
  • Back, Hip and Pelvic Pain
  • Nausea and Dizziness
  • Heart burn
  • Breathlessness

Transpersonal and Emotional Release Counselling

It provides a way of self-understanding and development. This approach is based on the research, methods, models and theoretical frameworks of Jung, Grof, Pearls and others.

Vicki Newman is a Transpersonal and Emotional Release Counsellor who has been working in her private practice for more than 10 years. She works with a diverse range of people, both adults and children, with wide ranging concerns. These can include depression, anxiety, unhappiness, physical and emotional trauma, recovery from mental illness, relationship problems at home or in the work place, life direction and meaning and many other issues one may face in life. The counselling journey may be a long or short term process, depending on the stage of therapy and the counselling needs of the client.

Transpersonal and Emotional Release Counselling is a dynamic and holistic form of counselling. It calls on the richness of the individuals life, as well as the hidden strengths within, that support each person's health and wellbeing.

During counselling sessions, body sensations, feelings, thoughts, beliefs and spiritual dimensions of the clients life journey are valued and explored. The conscious and unconscious dynamics of the clients biographical and transpersonal story is honoured to enable new perceptions and new responses in many areas of their lives. Vicki aims to assist her clients to make lasting changes in their lives by working with these conscious and unconscious patterns as they emerge naturally in the counselling journey.

Counselling sessions explore a clients inner dynamics through:

·         Meditations,
·         Expressive and integrative artwork, journaling,
·         Dreamwork, symbolwork, sandplay (Jung, Kaff),
